The Place des Vosges
Located between Bastille and Beaubourg, the Place des Vosges is one the most beautifully square in Paris and the only one with the famous Italian style. It was built by Henry IV under italian influence and soon became one of the exclusive areas to live. Victor Hugo lived on the Place des Vosges while he wrote Les Miserables during the XIXth century. The Jewish quarter just stroll up the rue des Rosiers. This was once the largest Jewish community in Europe before WWII. The Marais is also known for its numerous art galleries and design shops. To explore the Marais area the best place to start is to take the metro to Bastille or Saint Paul le Marais.
