The Place de la Concorde was completed in 1763. To the west is the famous Champs-Élysées. To the east are the Tuileries Gardens wit the Galerie nationale du Jeu de Paume and the Musée de l'Orangerie. The northeastern corner of the Place is the western end of the Rue de Rivoli The center of the Place de la Concorde is occupied by a obelisk. The obelisk, a red granite column, rises 23 metres (75 ft) high, it is one of two the Egyptian government gave to the French in the 19th century. The two fountains in the Place de la Concorde were designed by Jacques-Ignace Hittorff.
